about

"If autumn was a city, it would be Venice. There's a sense of melancholy that is achingly beautiful as opposed to sad, and a heightened awareness of how fleeting – and how precious – life is. l tried to capture that in this song, using images from the countryside where we live."

lyrics

circles of sunlight
amber, green and brown
leaves of all colours spinning around
turning and twirling
rise-and-falling
sweeping and swirling down to the ground

and the trees they concealed are starting to show
their beauty revealed as autumn leaves blow
and we walk through the world ...

sky’s in a hurry
bright clouds scurry by
while up on high the wild geese do cry

and the reds of the fields are a glorious sight
their stubble like steel in the sparkling light
as we walk through the world ...

and wasn’t it summer an hour ago?
now the clocks go back and autumn leaves blow ...

i’ve known bright springtimes
i’ve known summers fair
i’ve known cold winters solemn and bare
but of seasons that come and seasons that go
i miss you the most when autumn leaves blow
